Linen District wins Idaho Smart Growth Award
November 15th, 2007

At a presentation and reception on November 15th, 2007, David Hale , visionary and developer of the Linen District, was presented with an Idaho Smart Growth Award in the Commercial category.
Idaho Smart Growth’s mission is to build the capacity of Idahoans to shape the communities as they envision it; to increase public awareness of the links between transportation and quality of life; to educate Idahoans about the consequences of current development patterns; and to promote thoughtful long range planning and exercise current development policies at local, regional and state levels.
The Linen District was chosen as an award recipient for its thoughtful approach to redevelopment of an underutilized, underdeveloped area of downtown Boise along with its environmentally sensitive approach to redevelopment through utilizing Brownfield’s practices and sustainable design principles.
“I’m very proud to have been given this award.”  said David Hale .  “It feels good to be recognized for all the hard work that’s gone into seeing the Linen District through its first phase.  It’s been a team effort among existing and new businesses, city and state public agencies, subcontractors and property owners.”
The commercial mixed use Linen District consists of restaurants, Big City Coffee, retail shopping, the Modern Hotel and Bar, the Linen Events center, office space and service related businesses.
Currently, there is no residential component within the boundaries of the Linen District, but that’s soon to change says Hale.
“I’m very excited to announce the start of the second phase of the Linen District project, which will soon be visible with the addition of 6 residential condominium lofts above the existing Lincoln Building at 15th and Grove.”  Look for new loft living in the Linen District within the next year.
