Boise recognizes five companies for environmental efforts

Five Boise companies were awarded the city of Boise’s annual Enviro Guard Pollution Prevention Award today.

The annual awards, which were presented during a news conference at Second Chance Building Materials Center, recognize businesses that are working to better the local environment.

The 2006 winners are:

• Second Chance Building Materials recycles building materials, such as lumber, by selling used materials back to the community.
• MarKar Design and Construction Inc. builds energy efficient homes.
• Tesoro Corp. developed a device to capture toxic chemicals at its gas storage facility.
• Bogus Basin Nordic Group used solar lighting along its cross-country and snowshoe trails.
• Richards of Hyde Park has a comprehensive recycling program at the restaurant and buys local foods from environmentally friendly vendors.
